17th-Century Ship Reconstruction

I’m so happy to finally be able to share this work! This project has been an absolute blast for me, as it perfectly combines everything I love most: History, 3D Art, and classic sailing ships.

A massive amount of work went into this reconstruction, especially regarding historical research to ensure every detail of the textures and rigging felt authentic to the 1600s. From the initial modeling to the final animated video, it was a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the City of Lübeck for the opportunity to work on such a fascinating piece of maritime history.

Key features of this project:

Full 3D modeling and texturing of a 17th-century vessel.

Cinematic video animation with custom sound design.

In-depth historical research to replicate period-accurate rigging and hull structures.
One of the most challenging aspects of this project was the reconstruction of the hull. We started with a 3D scan of the actual shipwreck, but since very little of the original structure remained, there were no existing blueprints or references for this specific hull shape.

It required a constant back-and-forth with the archaeological team, blending technical 3D modeling with historical data to "fill the gaps." Finding the right balance between the scanned evidence and a functionally accurate 17th-century design was a puzzle, but seeing the final shape come together was incredibly satisfying.

Special thanks to Bartosz Kluz and the archaeological team for their guidance and feedback throughout the process. It was an honor to help bring this ship back to life!
